Stoke Golding Village Action Plan

Latest News

In early 2006, survey questionnaires were distributed to all Stoke Golding households, to schoolchildren in both schools, and village businesses, this being all part of developing a village plan. 37.8% of village households completed a survey and the next steps were to analyse the 9,500 questions answered in total over the three surveys and allow people to view the survey feedback at an exhibition that took place in March 06 and make comment.

All this has now taken place and Graham Vallis - a resident of the village who volunteered his time to construct a plan – spent the remainder of 2006 putting it together. The plan has finally reached a stage where it is ready for a period of final consultation, i.e., the chance for interested villagers to see it and make any comments about it in order that amendments can be made, as necessary.

The village plan is not intended to be ‘set in stone’, nor detail every move and project planned for the village, but more a route-plan which provides direction for a group of people to use and develop the thinking further, delivering what is required and thereby making the plan a reality.

The plan has originated from the ideas, views and comments gleaned from the survey feedback, and doesn’t represent the thoughts of any one person or group within the village. It is likely that not all of the actions/possible projects will meet with everyone’s approval, maybe a reflection of the increasing diversity in the village population? Similarly, some of the ideas represent change, something which is never undertaken lightly or without debate.

The document is 71 pages long. This is because it not only identifies 53 proposed actions/projects, but also sets out some of the statistics and thinking which shaped these actions/proposals, and also suggests how the plan could be taken forward. As will be seen when viewing the action/projects pages, there are three columns left blank to the right of these pages, this is because there is little point identifying people, costs and timescales until the plan is finally agreed – which is what this consultation is all about - but feedback on whom should be involved in each of the action/project points would be welcome when viewing the document, along with any other comments.

So, how do we respond to it?

Because of its size, it would be impracticable and costly to distribute a copy to every household, and it should also be viewed in its entirety and not ‘edited highlights’. For this reason, every effort is being made to make it available for viewing by as many means as possible over the forthcoming weeks. Reference copies are available to view in The Post Office, Middle Stores, St Margaret’s Church, Methodist Chapel, Zion Baptist Chapel, St Margaret’s School, St Martins School, Village Hall, The Doctors’ Surgery, The White Swan, The Three Horse Shoes, The George and Dragon and Stoke Golding Club.

There will be copies for viewing and a small display set up in the Methodist Chapel Hall on Saturday 5th May from 2.00pm until 5.30pm for comment.

This action plan is not intended nor designed to be implemented in weeks or even months, but over a period of several years, and hopefully it will be seen that there is an enormous amount to undertake for the benefit of the village, with other activities/projects being added in as time moves on. Not least a group of people will be needed to implement the plan – but more about this in the document itself.

So, do take the opportunity to read it and make your comments known by emailing via the link below or by dropping them into the box in the Post Office, available from 2nd April to 1st May.
