New Interpretation  Board - Wykin Lane Wildlife Area - March 2011 (Photo by Roy & Sue Mitchell)

Dave Marriott, Pauline Goodsell and Reg Ward

On Saturday 12th March 2011 an interpretation board was erected in the wildlife area of the new cemetery in Wykin Lane. We hope you find it pleasant to look at and informative to read.

The work that went into achieving this board stretches back quite a way and involved Dave Marriott, Pauline Goodsell and Sue Mitchell, in conjunction with Martin Bird, a local graphic designer. The board gives an idea of what we’ve tried to achieve, by creating various habitats - and hope that in time you will be able to observe some of the wildlife displayed.

We do ask that dog owners keep their dogs on leads in this area and clean up after them, using the bins provided.

This twelve foot high willow-work tree stands at the entrance to Willow Park, Business Centre. It began life as the centrepiece of a display entitled ‘Sleepy Hollow’ at the Gardeners World Show 2008 and was created by local ’Willow Man’ Tom Hare.

The old hosiery factory employed many of the village's adults before becoming small business units and closing in the 1990s. It was then converted into flats.
