Public Houses and Stoke Golding Club The George and Dragon, Station Road
Originally named 'The Swan', it was formed in 1798 from several ancient cottages to serve the great number of navvies building the Ashby Canal. An old photo of the pub shows 16th century brickwork beneath the stucco. Stoke Golding Club, Hinckley Road
Formerly known as Thornfield House, it was built in 1883/4 for a Hinckley man, William Gray Farmer. It then stood well outside the village and was a hunting lodge with stabling and a groom’s cottage. It latter years it became a Liberal Club and finally Stoke Golding Club. The Three Horseshoes, High Street
Known many years ago merely as The Horseshoes, it is probably of Georgian origins and was possibly built shortly after the village shop next door. |
