B J Cole & Emily Burridge in Concert - Friday 14th October 2011 You don’t hear this everyday! BJ Cole and Emily Burridge served up a treat at a recent Centre Stage performance at Stoke Golding Village Hall. They may not be names you are familiar with, but you will almost certainly have heard them perform with the likes of Elton John, The Verve, Sting, Jools Holland, Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey and Stereophonics to name but a few. They are accomplished individual musicians, with BJ on the pedal steel guitar and Emily on cello. They’ve played at many music festivals and concert venues so we felt pretty privileged to have them right here in Stoke Golding. In truth most of the audience did not know what to expect (I certainly didn’t) – pedal steel guitar and cello duets are not the type of music you hear every day – but somehow it worked. They played a number of classical pieces including arrangements of Satie’s Gnossienne Suites and also some contemporary pieces including ‘Cry Me a River’. My favourite, however, was Emily’s own composition ‘Out of the Blue’ – a haunting melody played with much feeling. So another great night of arts at the village hall. Alan White

The lucky audience, who managed to get hold of tickets for the recent Centre Stage Arts Event at the Village Hall, was completely mesmerised by the 5 men from Zimbabwe with their beautiful, energetic performance of a cappella song and dance. You could have heard a pin drop throughout the evening, apart from during the songs requiring audience participation. Most of the songs were sung in local dialect or Zulu and their obvious passion for their country shone through the whole performance. After a standing ovation they were finally allowed to leave the stage and enjoy a meal prepared by the Village Hall Committee. Black Umfolosi formed nearly 30 years ago when they were at school in their home town of Bulawayo. They now tour all over the world raising vital funds for causes close to their hearts where they live. If you missed this performance you may be fortunate enough to catch them during their tour across the UK that goes on until November – it will be worth it as they really are amazing. A very brave member of the audience, Amy Vallis, was persuaded on stage to join in one of the dances and she put on a very creditable performance – an experience she won’t forget in a hurry!

Valentine's Dance - February 2009 Love was in the air in Stoke Golding on 14th February when the Village Hall was transformed with hearts, candles, flowers and soft lighting to create a romantic atmosphere. ‘Route 66’ provided fantastic music for dancing the night away and, as well as a very enjoyable evening, the event raised over £450 towards a new ceiling for the hall.
Saturday, 15 March 2008, Stoke Golding Jubilee Fund presented another superb evening of entertainment 'Swing into Spring' with the big band sound of Brass, Wind & Fire at Stoke Golding Village Hall,
February 10th 2007 Fiddles, mandolin, guitar, accordion & trumpet all featured in the recent brilliant performance by the New Rope String Band at the Village Hall. The fact that there was an accordion player in a string band paled into insignificance, as the show developed, with the addition of plastic pipes, beer bottles and even flippers! Traditional music, expertly performed throughout the show, played an equal part to facial expression, movement and ‘props’ resulting in a hilarious and eccentric mix that had the audience in stitches. Musical tennis, with notes batted around off violins, and the accordion falling apart spraying feathers around the stage then being plugged into a vacuum cleaner are just two examples of theatrical performance provided by the four extremely talented musicians. If laughter really does reduce stress levels (as in the words of one of their songs), then the audience must have been completely ‘chilled-out’ by the end of the show! Once again this was top quality entertainment in our local Village Hall.
British Country Legend - Hank Wangford April 1st 2006 It hardly seems possible that The Hank Wangford Show was the 21st Village event organised by the Stoke Golding Jubilee Fund since their inception in 2002. The show was part of Hank Wangford’s 'No Hall Too Small!' tour. Hank was accompanied on the tour by Reg Meuross - one of the country’s greatest Country singer songwriters. We were treated to world-class country music from Hank Wangford and Reg Meuross as well as an insight into Hank’s unique and humorous view of life. We are most grateful to all our loyal supporters. The Hank show coincided with two other popular village events and it is a tribute to the loyalty of the regular audience that we still had a good attendance. Centre Stage Events are subsidised by our District Council, Leicestershire & Rutland County Councils and Arts Council England East Midlands.
